I'm now unemployed!!!

Friday was my last day in work. Now, after a brief holiday, Im working on becoming a mechanic. I want/need to arrange my work life in such a way that I'm able to have the time to do things like travel and to do that I need a skill that allows me to work for myself.

I built my rally car from a bare shell and, even though I didnt make it to mongolia, Getting the car to the launch was a huge life changing experience for me. The car only had registration plates and drove on the road for the first time the DAY BEFORE WE LEFT.

I think the rally changes everyone on soem way..

Nice one Ciaran - I thought the mechanicing thing was a hobby idea - didn't realise that you were going to go for it full-time.

I actually had serious thoughts about it when I came home - I think a career change is on the cards anyway. Bored at teh moment. I would be interested in being a mechanic but I'd be worried that I'd lose interest in it and playing with cars wouldn't be fun any more. It wouldbe very cool to be able to manage your own time, work for yourself and not be part of the normal 9 to 5.

Best of luck with it - tell me how you get on - are you going to go for an apprenticeship or try to specialise in auto electrics or anything?

TBH I dont know all the in's and outs of the buisness. Im doing the course metioned in Maso's othe r thread and will be yappint to mechaic's I know and generally seeing whats out there. I'm thinking of vering towards the Tuening side of things but Id like to be a full blown mechanic in the pure sense so I think an apprentiship at a garage is teh way forward..

Ask yourself if you would do your job anyway if you werent being paid to do it.

Every day I was in work for the last year I was itching to goto my garage and work on the car. It was hard, I was constantly dirty and cut and cramped but I was happy, proper real and true happy.

Perhaps Im just having a midlife freak out..HAHAHAHA

Reply #6 - Sep 23^rd, 2007, 9:41pm I go the the military vehicle maintenance section every night after work and some weekends, one of the lads is building a sprint car an the other is changing suspension, we're going to do some work on Kevin but he needs loads of welding too (the equipment is kept locked away). I have my own overalls, just need my own mug now!

The buzz still hasn't worn off and I quite mine over 2 and a half months ago.Still happy as I sit here unemployed wondering what the hell I'm going to do with myself. Hope the mechanic thing works out for you.
