Sold the Golf to some Latvians.
It broke down on the test drive and they still bought it. I couldn't believe it.
 
I was expecting something like this to happen as it probably broke down again 10 miles down the road:

The Golf developed a problem.
It would break down with no warning, and become very unreliable.
 
It got to the point where it would break down on every journey.
I paid to get it fixed (I don't have an ECU fault code reader).  
The coil pack was replaced which seemed to solve the problem.
 
However after about 1500miles the problem was there again. And for some reason the rev limit had been re-set to 5000.
That coupled with the drivers side window and door lock not working (bot mechanical not electrical faults), meant it was time to git rid.
 
Hence the:

I dunno, I prefer this to the Golf, the Golf is a bit more common, this has the looks.  And as you know Mr. V.  It's all about looks.
 
I'm getting sick of being messed around bu car sellers over here, still trying my best to give them money, but they always show me very convincing reasons not to.  Hopefully soon...

V whats the craic with yours, mine is a 93 2.0 gti in turquoise i got it for 400 after my mate was caught doing 140 in it and doesnt need a car any more
tempted to cover it in sega rally stickers

and it is a sane choice, its cheaper to insure than my vulvo was so therefore safer and more sensible
and the best bit , my girlfriend payed for it as she was embarassed by the vulvo Smiley

Mine is a 1990 Gen 5 Celica GTi-16.
It uses a 2.0L 3S-GE engine which produces about 156bhp. Toyota did produce another revision of the 3S-GE engine which has a freer flowing cylinder head, more aggressive cams, and a remaped ECU, and produces 177BHP. A lot of people use the head and ecu as an easy swap to gain 20bhp.
 
0-60 is 7.9 seconds. But I've only bean able to do an 8.2 due to a slipping clutch and economy tires.
Top speed 137mph, but I've never been over 100mph.
ACIS kicks in at about 4500 rpm, which is fun.
Acis is a variable length inlet manifold which uses acoustic tuning of the inlet harmonics to increase power at certain rpm.
 
I think your car will have thicker anti roll bars, and a smaller or bigger fuel tank (I can't remember off hand).

yeah mine has the slightly later engine with a bit more oomph but its been decatted , remapped and some other stuff that really arent as important as the pop up lights
i dont get that boost at 4500, i get a bit of surge at 3000 but when you hit 6000 its like a turbo kicking in and just wants to spin the wheels
it came with a set of 18 in alloys but keeping it on the standards at the moment as the suspension is feckin hard and low frofiles really wouldnt be so great for that road to portaferry
you should be able to raise the top speed to 140 with a little fettling, the gearbox has a limiter at that so no point doing too much

Seriously WTF!
Are you sure your car isn't a GT4? Does it have a turbo? Or a bonnet vent? Is it 4 wheel drive?
 
An atmo 270 bhp might be possible with full race head, radical cam profile, high revs (9-10K), fully built bottom end, stand alone management and independent throttle bodies.
But you'd be looking a £3-8K for that kind of power from an N/A engine, with no idle and horrible miles per gallon.
 
Do the lines on your dyno sheet cross at 5252 rpm?

What ever % increase in power I get from the nitrous, that's how much my insurance goes up by.
 
So a 25bhp shot, or 17% power increase = 17% more on insurance.
Which is about £65 + admin fees.

I imagine you could, but I don't know why you would want too.
 
I think the best way would be:
You know if you flash the lights with out them popped up, they come up then go back down in one action.
I think you could interrupt that circuit, and use the signal to drive a relay which will active only one of the head lights.
 
I don't think it would that easy though.

No it's not.
It's a piece of early 90's Jap Crap.
 
Well boys and girls. Three years after I first brought up the topic, I now have a running, fully tested Nitrous system on the Celica.
 
Just 25 bhp shot at the mo.
I expect to increase this very soon.
 
Haven't tried it in first, no traction in second, nice acceleration in third, fourth and fifth.
Heating the bottle makes a huge difference.
 
Oh and to all you nay sayers. It didn't blow up, so there!

That depends on lots of things.  Will have to talk to you at some stage.  
 
2 weeks to the first trackday in the Mustang.  Getting excited now.  Must get an oil change, change the brake fluid and check the pads then give it all a once over, I really really don't want it blowing up on me (but I will try).

Oh the nitrous kit broke.
 
Not the engine. Thats fine.
 
I was fine tuning the system, changing the jets as it was running too rich.
I had set the fuelling on the rich side to be safe, but turns out I was being way to cautious. So I was changing the nitrous jet to the next size up to get the mixture correct.
 
Anyway, We were doing a static test with the car sat on the drive way.
All was fine, but when we shut the system off Nitrous was leaking past the solenoid valve.
 
Turns out the seat has worn out, so its not creating a gas tight seal anymore.
Lucky we spotted this as it could have leaned the engine out and melted bits.
 
So we aborted the rest of the tests and made some nitrous powered rockets instead.

I find it hard to imagine you fine-tuning anything Varnish.
 
I just get a picture of you with a Polo on a pothole, belting the gear linkage, so you can get more than one gear.

I'm an engineer pregnant dog.
 
I was pulling dyno runs on a cosworth DFV the other day.
Well thats a bit of a lie. I helped put the engine on the dyno, and watched someone else pull runs.

Fair enough, that's impressive enough stuff anyway, and I suppose I've never built a nitrous kit, broken or not, so fair enough there too.  What kind of an engineer will you be when you're done?

The pretend kind.
I don't think the degree is worth jack TBH.
We certainly don't do any real engineering type stuff.
 
But it'll give me a good chance of getting a job building engines.
I've got a placement at an engine builders which is great. They have a contract to build engines for the BTCC this year.

Cool stuff, Yeah, if you could get the right job building engines - i.e. personalised jobs where you get to use a bit of imagination, then it would be a really really cool job, I guess it's something where you need experience more than qualifications anyway, so you're going the right way.

The lawn mowers are being a little bit tricky.
But they will run.
When I had one apart I decided I'd give it a little bit of a porting.
Just need to sort the ignition and I think I'll have at least one running.
 
The second one needs a strip and rebuild (could do a 3 angle valve job, and a bit of porting).
 
The nitrous will also be making a return next month. Along with a progressive controller, and a wideband lambda gauge.

Stripping down a 2-stroke, 2HP generator today to give to my students for their 3D modelling project.  Much fun.  Got me a very cool tool kit paid for by work, very very nice being able to walk into a tool store and just point at things without having to worry about the price.

Stripped down a kart engine today - these things are really cool.  So simple, 2 stroke rocks.  Going to use this instead - a far more interesting bit of kit than a generator.  50cc single cylinder, with a cool centrifugal clutch arrangement.
